Car Wash & Detailing FAQ
Answers to the questions we hear most about washing, detailing, pricing, and finding us. Still stuck? Give us a call and we'll help.
Washing & general
Does Big Lou's hand wash cars?
Yes — hand washing is our specialty. Our team washes your vehicle by hand rather than relying only on automated brushes, for a cleaner and gentler result inside and out.
Do I need an appointment?
No appointment is needed for a wash — just pull in on Belt Line Rd during business hours. For a full detail, we recommend calling ahead so we can reserve the time your vehicle needs.
Do you offer free vacuums?
Free vacuums are available with a wash so you can clean your own floors and mats, or let our team handle the full interior as part of a detail.
Do you wash trucks, SUVs, and larger vehicles?
Yes. We wash and detail cars, trucks, and SUVs. Larger or especially dirty vehicles take more time and may be priced accordingly — call for a quick quote.
Is a hand wash safe for my car's paint?
A careful hand wash is the gentlest way to clean paint. It avoids the stiff, reused brushes some automatic tunnels use, which can leave fine swirl marks over time.
Is a touchless or automatic car wash safe for my paint?
Touchless washes avoid brushes but rely on stronger chemicals and high-pressure water, which can be less thorough. Automatic brush tunnels can introduce fine swirls over time. A careful hand wash is generally the gentlest, most thorough option for your paint.
Auto detailing
What is the difference between a car wash and auto detailing?
A wash cleans the surface for everyday freshness. Detailing is a much deeper, hands-on service that shampoos upholstery, cleans and conditions every interior surface, and decontaminates and protects the paint. Most drivers get regular washes and a detail a few times a year.
What is included in interior car detailing?
Interior detailing includes a thorough vacuum, shampooing carpets and upholstery, cleaning and conditioning leather where applicable, detailing the dash, console, vents, and door panels, cleaning the interior glass, and deodorizing the cabin.
What is included in exterior detailing?
Exterior detailing includes a hand wash, paint decontamination to remove bonded grime, polishing to reduce light swirls and haze, and a wax or sealant for protection and shine, plus cleaning the wheels, tires, and trim.
How long does a full car detail take?
A complete detail is several hours of hands-on work, and the exact time depends on your vehicle's size and condition. Because it takes a while, we recommend calling ahead to schedule.
How often should I get my car detailed?
Many drivers get a full detail once or twice a year, with regular washes in between. Families, pet owners, and high-mileage drivers may want interior detailing more often.
Can a detail remove scratches or swirl marks?
Polishing during exterior detailing can reduce or remove light swirl marks and haze and greatly improve the finish. Deep scratches that have gone through the clear coat can't be polished out — we'll tell you what's realistic after seeing the paint.
Can you remove pet hair and odors?
Yes. Pet hair and odors are among the most common things we tackle in interior detailing. We vacuum and lift embedded hair and deodorize the cabin. Strong, set-in odors may need extra treatment — mention it when you call.

How much does a car wash cost at Big Lou's?

What is a hand wash and wax, and how long does the wax last?
A hand wash and wax is a full hand wash finished with a protective wax that adds shine and helps protect the paint. A quality wax typically lasts several weeks to a couple of months depending on weather, how often you wash, and where you park.
